New Challenges in technological cooperation of the army and industry – Bumar on the II Days of Industry

On 17 November 2009 the Second Conference of the Days of Industry 2009 took place in the Conference Center of the Polish Army. The Conference was organized by the Ministry of Defense and was concerned with New Challenges in technological cooperation of the army and industry. The conference was attended by representatives of companies from the Bumar Group.

The opening general session was opened by the Undersecretary of State for Armament and Modernization at the Ministry of Defense, Mr. Marcin Idzik, who listed the main purposes for transformations in the national defense industry, which include acquiring the most modern defense technologies for the Polish Army and supporting scientific and industrial potential of our country.

The opening session featured a speech by the President of Bumar Sp. z o.o., Mr. Edward E. Nowak, who presented the potential of the Polish military industry concentrated in the companies of Bumar Group and the possibility of their response to the demands of the Polish Army.

The conference was attended by major representatives of the General Staff - the Head of the General Staff of the Polish Army, gen. Franciszek Gągor. The session opening the proceedings also featured speeches by Minister Krzystof Łaszkiewicz from the treasury, the representatives of the Ministry of Economy, Inspectorate of Armed Forces Support and the Department of Science and Education at the Ministry of Defense.

Conference proceedings were conducted in four panel sessions:

Panel I Systems supporting command and picturing the battlefield C4ISR. The representative of CNPEP "Radar" S.A., Mr. Marek Borejko presented a report on The Automatic signaler of chemical, radioactive pollutions TAFIOS-B - new product, new possibilities and technical parameters.

Panel II Land Forces and Special Forces - concerned issues dealing with problems connected with acquiring missile and artillery weaponry and other military equipment by the Land Forces. This panel featured presentations by the representatives of Bumar Sp. z o.o., Tomasz Berezowski on The possibilities and supplies for the Land Forces and Special Forces in the matter of acquiring multi-task, transport helicopters, training the personnel, service-renovation and logistic needs, Tomasz Mirosław with the report: Cavalryman 21 - a proposal of business program of development of the Soldier of the future system. From the Bumar Group, Mr. Andrzej Piątek from ZM "Mesko" S.A. presented a report on Production-technical artillery capabilities of ammunition of precise range cal. 155mm and 120 mm

 Panel III Air Forces - was primarily concerned with helicopters, air training, requirements concerning radars and antiaircraft and antimissile defense systems. Here, a report was presented by Wiesław Jędrzejewski from Bumar Sp. z o.o. on The conditions and possibilities of creating in Poland a system of short range self-propelled antiaircraft missile systems. Maciej Moskalewicz from ZM Mesko S.A. gave a report on The modernization of Man-portable air defense system Grom, code Piorun.

Panel IV The Navy concerned issues connected with naval technology.

The reports of the army side pointed the industry and science certain possible research-development works and possible scopes of equipment and ammunition. The army needs ammunition of precise range for equipment, which the army already possesses and sees a possibility in adapting the already functioning ammunition for newly developed equipment. From the presented reports stemmed a need for the army to ask for support for the entire service of the product and an idea for the production, use support and utilization.

In the session concluding the conference, Mr. Edward E. Nowak pointed to the need to organize more detailed seminars with the participation of the army and industry, which should serve for developing certain issues by both sides. In His conclusion, Minister Marcin Idzik emphasized, that newly developed concepts presented during the conference are a perspective, which should be developed as part of the existing operational programs of the Program of Modernization of the Polish Army so, as they get positive assessment in the NATO Defense Review in June 2010.
