MSPO 2011: Poland and Romania Will Build the Shield Together

During the first day of the International Defence Industry Exhibition (MSPO) in Kielce on 5th September, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Poland and Romania signed an agreement on the cooperation on the development of the anti-aircraft and anti-ballistic defence system between Bumar Group and the Romanian company of UTI.

Romania, like Poland is facing the necessity of a comprehensive modernization and replacement of its anti-aircraft systems.

The proposal of the Polish defence industry centered on Bumar Group which offers a comprehensive anti-aircraft and anti-ballistic defence system called The Shield of Poland, has met with a very strong interest from Romania. The Romanian party is interested in close cooperation in supplies of Polish anti-aircraft and anti-ballistic defence systems of short and very short range.

The agreement was signed by the presidents of Bumar Group companies which are supposed to implement the project of the Shield of Poland: Mr. Edward E. Nowak, The president of Bumar sp. zo.o., Mr. Ireneusz Żmidziński from Bumar Electronics (CNPEP Radwar S.A.,  PIT S.A., Dolam S.A.) and Mr. Waldemar Skowron from Bumar Ammunition (Mesko S.A.,  ZPS Pionki,  Nitrochem S.A., FPS Bolechowo S.A.). The agreement gives chance to defence industries of both countries to strengthen cooperation in the field of technologically advanced defence systems, being at the same time an example of partnership and cooperation which increases defence potential of the European Union and NATO.

The agreement ensures that Polish and Romanian companies will jointly develop technologies and systemsin area such as:

  • Technologically advanced systems of command
  • Internal security systems
  • The creation of advanced software for crisis management integration systems, borders protection and strategic objects
  • The construction of complex IT systems to ensure safety in the sector of critical infrastructure and energy security
  • Coopeation in the field of research and development in new technologies

The agreement also includes a number of non-military areas and close cooperation on third markets. Long-standing experience of Bumar Group is very important for both countries in the field of design and manufacture modern radar and anti-aircraft systems in accordance with NATO standards. As an example, long-range radars produced by Bumar Electronics Division which are a part of the Backbone NATO early warning system.
